L'Herbe Village
Categorized in South West
L'Herbe is a rather peculiar name for this little fishing village, but ultimately, this name suits this quaint village of fishermen and oyster farming nestled in the pine forest of Cap Ferret perfectly.
We visited this village during our road trip in the southwest of France in April 2023, after hiking around the Cap Ferret lighthouse and the Pointe of Cap Ferret.
The village of L'Herbe is surrounded by nature
The village is surrounded by a maritime pine forest and located on the edge of the Arcachon Basin. Clearly, it is a tribute to nature and the traditions of oyster farming.
Situated on the shores of the Arcachon Basin, L'Herbe is a charming fishing village that has retained all of its authenticity and old-world charm.
We loved strolling through the narrow streets of this village where, at every turn, there was a surprise to discover; a fountain, beautiful flowers, a cat, or even a wooden hut offering oyster tastings.
Almost all the houses in L'Herbe are made of wood and have a privileged view of the Arcachon Basin.
The village of L'Herbe has its own beach
The village beach takes us back in time as it has preserved its authenticity, without concrete constructions or modern facilities.
We took the stairs a few streets back from the village. It allowed us to gain some height. Once at the top, we arrived at a park with well-placed benches to admire the view of the village and the Arcachon Basin, and the fishing boats. The view is superb. We really recommend climbing these stairs!
Panoramic view of the Arcachon Basin
Finally, if the few oyster producer huts are open, we highly recommend tasting some!
In our opinion, the oyster village of L'Herbe is a place not to be missed if you are heading to Cap Ferret.
