The Cap Ferret Point
Categorized in South West
At the tip of the Cap Ferret peninsula lies a natural treasure: the Pointe du Cap Ferret. It was during our road trip in the southwest in April 2023 that we had planned to visit this wild location.
How to get to Pointe du Cap Ferret?
To get to Pointe du Cap Ferret, there is a path of fine sand that starts from the last roundabout south of the D106 (map).
We parked along the D106 because in this April period, parking is easy there.
The walk to reach the beach at Pointe du Cap Ferret takes about 15 minutes. The hike is easy although you will walk in fine sand and it can be strenuous. The final stretch of the hike is on wooden planks. Arrival at the beach at Pointe du Cap Ferret is at the level of the Bunker Vault of the Blockhaus, a remnant of World War II half buried in the sand.
An immense beach swept by the elements
The beach at Pointe du Cap Ferret is a wild place that will delight nature lovers in its raw state. We loved the feeling of fresh air coming from the Atlantic Ocean, the powerful waves, and the expanse of sand as far as the eye can see. The scenery is very exotic!
For those who like to be alone facing the immensity of nature, Pointe du Cap Ferret is a must-visit.
Swimming prohibited at Pointe du Cap Ferret
It should be noted that Pointe du Cap Ferret constitutes the mouth of the Bassin d'Archachon and therefore, the currents there are very strong and unpredictable, changing and sometimes invisible.
That is why a sign informs us that it is not possible to continue and that beyond the sign, the area is protected by prefectural decree.
Of course, you will see some daredevils who will defy the danger but the view is not better after the sign so it is useless to venture further to enjoy this landscape of dunes, ocean, and fine sand.
